MAT Treatment Program Duncanville
It is estimated that 2 million people have an opioid use addiction which consists of the abusive use of prescription pain medicine which contains opiates and heroin.
Medication-Assisted Treatment or MAT has proven time and again to be clinically effective in significantly treating Opioid Use Disorders (OUD). MAT is a more comprehensive and individually customized program that combines medication and behavioral therapy that serves the needs of most patients.
METHADONE AS A TREATMENT

Methadone is a drug that is used for the treatment of drug addiction, in coordination with counseling and other behavioral therapies. It is a long-acting full opioid agonist, and also a schedule II controlled medication. If taken as prescribed by a certified practitioner, methadone is safe and effective. It helps patients achieve and continue recovery and to go back to meaningful lives.

METHADONE CLINIC
Methadone works by discouraging opioid craving. It also blunts the effects of opioids. Methadone is taken daily, under supervision, in liquid, diskette, or powder form. By law, only a certified treatment program can dispense methadone for the treatment of Opioid Use Disorders. Patients may only receive methadone under the supervision of a licensed practitioner. When stability is proven, based on consistent compliance with dosage, patients may take methadone home in between program sessions. The length of a methadone clinic program is a minimum of 6 to12 months with some patients requiring long-term maintenance. It is imperative that patients coordinate with their MAT specialist through the methadone clinic to gradually reduce dosage to prevent withdrawal.
METHADONE CLINIC PROCEDURE
The ultimate goal for Medicated-Assisted Treatment is to help individuals achieve lasting recovery from their addiction. Here is a brief rundown of how our MAT Treatment Program works.
- When individuals ask to be admitted into a methadone clinic program, they need to undergo an initial screening and medical assessment. These will finalize the customized treatment that can best benefit them.
- When all aspects have been cleared, they are admitted into the program and are given their appropriate dosing schedule. They are closely monitored for the first 7 to 10 days which form part of 6 months wherein they need to visit the methadone clinic daily for their dosage.
- If they are in consistent compliance with their dosage, they will be permitted to take home their supplies for a few days or even weeks.
- This treatment is done in conjunction with counseling and behavior therapy plus frequent drug use testing.
